With exams creeping closer, MECHA took a much-needed wellness break at Auckland Climbing Gym, Parnell. The goal was simple: step away from the study grind, move a little, and enjoy a relaxed afternoon together.

Students bounced between different bouldering routes, trying out problems that ranged from easy warmups to trickier holds that needed a bit of engineering creativity. The atmosphere stayed super chill with lots of laughs, casual competition, and everyone climbing at their own pace. It was a great reminder that taking a moment to unwind can make the busy weeks ahead feel a bit more manageable.

A big thanks to Auckland Climbing Gym for hosting us and providing such a welcoming space!

Bouldering

Bringing back the biannual Staff vs. Student sports tournament this year has been an absolute blast! We were excited to kick off Sem 2 this year with a Volleyball tournament! Part 2 Mechatronics was able to take home the win over Pt 3's, after an intense 5 set final showdown. Unforetunately (or foretunately for us), the students took the win this year, but we can't forget the amazing opportunity this event provided to connect with our lecturers, tutors and admin teams. This event really helped bridge the gap between the students and staff with friendly competition, and we certainly did not miss the opportunity to get back for those pesky tests on the court!

Thank you everyone who came, and thank you to all the beloved MECH department staff who are so important in curating a strong and safe community in the department. We really appreciate all of you, and your special dedication to our cohorts and studies. We look forward to seeing everyone back on the courts next year!

Staff vs Students Volleyball

This week, MECHA hosted On The Grind, a coffee pop-up in the Terraces where our lovely exec Kia and her boss Indi moved their cafe, Little Things, to us, into campus. They came out early, set up a full coffee stand, and spent the morning giving out free coffees to students and staff.

The Terraces basically turned into a mini study café, the area buzzed with quiet conversations, people settling in with their drinks, and an overall calm, aesthetic vibe. The event was extremely popular. The line stayed steady the whole time, and everyone appreciated the caffeine boost and the chance to pause their day for a bit. Kia and her team were super friendly, chatting with people while making drinks and offering little coffee insights.

Indi also shared some coffee insights with us about different beans, roasts, and brewing styles which was a fun break from all the engineering study going on. Huge thanks to Kia, Indi, and their cafe for bringing such a great energy to campus, and thank you to everyone who stopped by and made the morning feel so welcoming.
